We waited until the fog began to lift this morning at the Alabama anchorage. Quiet night with not an alligator in sight! Thankfully we have been missing the stormy weather but the rain continues to send debris down the river. Keeps me busy on watch through the binoculars all day as we dodge logs, both large and small, floating down the river.
On the way to Fairhope we passed through the busy port of Mobile and Mobile Bay. This is a busy port having a significant number of barges, marinas, and ship building companies that lined the Tombigbee River as it entered Mobile Bay. One surprising fact is that the bay is very shallow ~7-10 feet deep which made for some careful navigation and charting.
Fairhope is a popular destination in this area. It boasts the filming of several movies including “The Life of Chuck “ based on a book by Stephen King. It is small town reminiscent of New Orleans. We stayed a few days to explore this small town and to wait out some storms coming through this weekend.
We have been on the water for a little over 5 months now. We have completed over 100 locks, traveled through twelve states, two countries and numerous cities and towns-too many to count! Finally out of the river system and into Mobile Bay where fresh water meets salt, palm trees are abundant, and the weather is warmer! We are leaving behind logs coming up the river, random strange places to tie our boat to (hopefully), as well as river currents and enormous barges! Overall we have enjoyed our adventure which has been more work than expected. There are so many things that were not included in the brochure!🤪

Our trip on day 164.
