We had a very early, rainy start to the day. Threw lines at 6:30 a.m. and off to our first lock of the day-Mel Price. Soon after the lock we approached downtown St. Louis. The waterfront here is industrial having no recreational boating facilities. Continued on uneventful through our second lock until we approached Hoppies when the wind picked up and we began to see a great deal of flotsam in the water. Tying to the dock was quite an adventure! As we were tying up the deck hands let us know they had to secure their dock as it was floating away! Little did we know that the dock was being secured by a Dodge pick up parked on the hill above🤪.
Kimmswick, population ~ 200, was a quaint little town that was gearing up for their apple butter festival. On our walk into town we met the chief of police who welcomed us and told us all about the upcoming festival when the population will rise into the thousands. Every other house was turned into a shop, restaurant or cafe in preparation for the festival. Check out the pictures of some unique log cabins.
