Started the day early heading to Sisters Creek free dock. We arrived to Sisters Creek early, and although there was room we decided to venture on to Fernandina Beach Marina. Spent the first night on the mooring and a few days in the marina. In hind sight it was a good decision to hang here for a few days as there were several tornado warnings just north of us the day after we docked.
We stayed here on a mooring the first night and then two days in the marina hunkering down for the storms headed our way. On Thursday we decided to take a guided tour to Cumberland Island. Since the weather was not expected to be so nice (heavy rains and tornado warnings) it seemed like a good alternative to sitting on a boat in high winds.
We enjoyed our trip to the island. Here we visited the small church where John John Kennedy was married, the historic Plum Island Mansion-built in the 1800’s, the Dungeness ruins, as well as wild horses roaming the island. It was amazing to see how lavish a lifestyle the Carnegie’s lived. Can you imagine having an indoor heated pool in the 1800’s!
Our trip on day 293.
