On Nick’s suggestion we stopped at RE Mayo fish company in Hobucken, NC, population 2,086 with a median home value of $107,000. I am thinking this could be a nice area to retire to if one wanted to be a “halfback”. Check out the link it is actually a trend in “these here parts!” 🤪. I guess it makes sense as this area is beginning to look a lot like New England. The weather year round is pleasant with only a few snowflakes every 3-5 years and never enough to shovel. Of course there are still alligators in some of the waters as well as hurricanes and torrential downpours to contend with.

RE Mayo was one of the quietest stops we have had yet on the loop. Seems reasonable considering the population. This was very much a no frills stop. They barely answered the phone when we called and we were directed to tie up wherever we felt comfortable. There was a fish store of course, electricity, no water, but at 40 cents per foot, ($13) it was a steal. We also got to see the local sites including their pirate ship. Rumor has it from the marine patrol it was purchased by the owner during a drunken night and has not moved in the 2 years he has owned it.

Our trip today.
