The winds are expected to pick up over the next few days so we decided to stay in the area an extra day. It worked out well as we will be visiting Chuck & Susan from “Jagger” at their home on Merritt Island, FL. We will miss seeing them on the final leg of our trip home having traveled with them for some 5 months or so.  Hopefully they will come and visit us in Wareham this summer.

Merritt Island has much to offer. It is close to Cocoa Beach, the Kennedy Space Center, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. It is heaven for some of my birder friends as one can see flamingos and the elusive roseate spoonbill. I have been looking for this bird for several weeks now and sadly none to be seen on this trip, as of yet! Hoping to see one before we leave the Florida shores.

Something we learned about traveling the intracoastal waterway is that one should not go in the water here. As you can see below we had an 8ft. gator that enjoyed visiting us at night!

Our trip on day 286. Melbourne to Titusville.
