Today was a beautiful day on the water. We have heard so many horror stories about Delaware Bay that we were a bit apprehensive. It seems that the bay is typically heavy with commercial traffic with some of the larger tankers and carriers reportedly throwing a 5’ wake. Well needless to say we experienced little traffic and no 5’ wakes! We made Cape May in the early afternoon after an uneventful crossing. This is the last big body of water that we will need to cross on our way home and we were grateful to have it safely behind us.
We spent a few days here in Cape May after considering moving on because of more weather ahead. We enjoyed the area and spent our first day walking the beach and strolling around town. Cape May is reminiscent of the gingerbread houses on Martha’s Vineyard. Our second day we ventured out on the scooters to the Cape May Lighthouse and walking trails. The hiking area was as varied as it was impressive. Within our few miles of hiking we were in the woods, on the beach, as well as several ponds. Check out the massive swan we spotted on one of the ponds below!
